REVIEW: Someone Anyone Single Release

If you follow the music in Hastings, Someone/Anyone has definitely been on your radar. The five-piece alternative band formed of Harry Osborne (Guitar, Lead Vocals), Jamie Thomas (Bass), Charlie Cooper (Drums, Backing Vocals), Daniel McConkey (Sax) & Joe Thomas (Keys, Backing Vocals) have been making significant strides in the past year, releasing four well-received singles as well as performing for BBC Introducing the South.

On April 29th, Someone/Anyone and the striking talent of chanteuse Poppy Prescott graced the stage at The Printworks for the band’s single release of “Getting Late”. They were supported by Hastings’ own musical collective Buddha Triangle as well as London-based pop band Cosmic Strip, who evoked a tranquil tone with their “flower power” set and astral-synth. Someone/Anyone performed new material, including “Green and Neon”, and Poppy Prescott’s appealingly haunting resonance accompanying Harry Osborne’s impassioned vocals added an entirely new dimension to their sound. The excitement of the night was all too much for drummer Charlie who ran off to the toilet mid-set, but spirits remained high as the band performed a jazzy instrumental that an audience member described as “something Miles Davis would be proud of”.

Someone/Anyone’s lyrics aren’t sugar-coated but they’re never harsh, and their fans vary from those carefree and ready to dance to those intensely tuned into their sound. While they continue to up the ante with their live performance as well as songwriting, Someone/Anyone is definitely the band to watch evolve this year.

Someone/Anyone’s new single “Getting Late” is available to stream on Spotify and purchase from iTunes. You can also follow them on Facebook and Twitter.
